The Reality Of Spiritual Warefare – 220
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side." – Isaiah 60:1-4
As we continue our teaching on spiritual warfare, it is vital to keep one important truth in mind if we are to live victoriously and wisely:
Hypervigilance will wear you out:
Hypervigilance—living in constant fear of spiritual attack—will drain your strength, rob your peace, and ultimately make life miserable for both you and those around you. It is fear left unchecked. Instead of resting in God’s protection, we begin to take matters into our own hands, subtly declaring, “God, I cannot trust You to protect me, so I will protect myself my own way.”
That mindset is a recipe for exhaustion and spiritual defeat. When someone lives in this heightened state of fear, Satan doesn’t have to work very hard. A single fearful thought, a whispered lie, or a fleeting suggestion is enough to send them spiraling into anxiety, obsession, and torment. Fear becomes the enemy’s playground.
The way out of this cycle is not greater vigilance—it is greater trust. The path to freedom is a deliberate, moment-by-moment decision to release every area of life into God’s hands. Your emotions may be screaming, and the enemy may be shouting, but you must refuse to give in. Plant your stake firmly in the ground and decide: I will rest. I will trust God. I will take my hands off the controls.
“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me…It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”—Psalm 118:6–7
Remember the Whole Counsel of God
Another critical safeguard in spiritual warfare is remembering the whole counsel of God. Some Believers fixate on warning passages in Scripture while neglecting the promises. When this happens, the enemy twists those verses to torment them with fears of losing their Salvation or being rejected by God.
This tactic is more common than many realize—and it is telling. Satan would never torment an unbeliever this way. Why would someone fear losing something they never possessed or valued? Such torment is often a sign that the person truly belongs to Christ. Jesus Himself gives us this unshakable assurance:
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand… and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”— John 10:28–29
When these fears arise, remember the Blood of the Cross. Remember who you are in Christ and what has been secured for you through His finished work. Resist the temptation to isolate verses and “proof-text” your own condemnation. Instead, anchor yourself in the full revelation of Scripture. Stand firm in your identity as God’s beloved son or daughter—secure, redeemed, and held firmly in His hands.
Spiritual warfare is not about living in fear; it is about living in faith. Victory is not found in constant suspicion or obsessive vigilance, but in confident trust in a faithful God. When we rest in His protection and stand on the whole counsel of His Word, we deny the enemy his greatest weapon—fear. Choose trust over terror, rest over resistance, and identity over insecurity. In Christ, you are not barely surviving the battle—you are securely held by the One who has already won it. Blessed be His Holy Name! Amen...
